This week (Dec 9, 2014) the Red Knot was formally listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. These birds make migratory trips of nearly 20,000 miles annually. They are incredible voyagers. One even earning the nickname of Moonbird because researchers calculated it's flown enough miles to make it to the moon and half way back.
